My work

Last update: Sept 2021

Currently:
  • BA Technical Director: I am delighted to be working for the UK cycle industry's trade body, the Bicycle Association, on their technical programme, among other things providing technical support for member companies and working on CEN and ISO cycle safety standards.

  • Freelance translation: I occasionally translate German to English, mainly for bicycle-related customers.

  • York Rally: It's not work as such but I'm volunteering as Publicity Officer for the York Rally, a historic York cycling event which a group of volunteers successfully revived in June 2015.

  • Watch this space for other work and projects which are in the pipeline! And please do contact me (peter ~at~ eland.org.uk) if you have any proposals.

Previously:
  • Technical Advisor: I provided technical advice/assistance for the 2015-16 DfT-funded Shared Electric Bike Programme.

  • From 2000 to early 2015, I founded, edited and published Velo Vision, an international magazine covering innovative bike designs and all sorts of cycling for transport and touring. Together with my designer colleague Brian Holt, and with the help of countless, invaluable contributions from readers, I produced 48 issues, sold these in 50+ countries and brought together a wonderful community of like-minded enthusiasts. In early 2015 I passed the title to one of the magazine's readers, Howard Yeomans, who continued the publication to an incredibly high standard for several issues, before passing it over to another new owner, whose health issues unfortunately resulted in publication ceasing. The websites now seem to be inactive, too.

  • In 2010 I also founded Electric Bike Magazine and developed it into the leading e-bike publication in the UK. After nine issues, in early 2015 I announced my retirement from this publication as well. It was sold to a mainstream publisher but ceased publication after a few years.

  • For many years mechanical-related activities have made me just occasional money, but been lots of fun! As well as running the popular Cheap and free CAD page I've done various engineering type projects.
